Quarryplan is an independent consultancy providing specialist planning and property advice to the minerals, waste management and energy generation sectors. As the leading Mineral Consultancy in Northern Ireland, Quarryplan are recognised throughout the industry as an epert in their field.


Quarryplan are looking to recruit an apprentice surveyor whose main role will be the collection of ortho- imagery and 3d data to be presented as plans using AutoCAD. All design and development projects start with the requirement for an accurate baseline, in the form of a plan. The role of the surveyor is to provide support to the planning and geological / geotechnical staff and to be responsible for accurate data collection using both unmanned aerial survey and more traditional GPS equipment.

Career Progression:

The successful candidate will be put through the BTEC HNC in Construction and Built Environment to include the surveying module (or an equivalent course) and will be expected to progress to complete a degree with the ultimate goal of becoming a Chartered Geomatic Surveyor and Member of the Royal Institute of Charted Surveyors. Furthermore, the apprentice will be provided with the appropriate training to be competent to fly the Company’s Sensefly ebee plus survey grade drone and before undertaking work, will obtain a Civil Aviation Authority Pilot in Charge licence.

The successful candidate must be prepared to work away from home and training will take place both from the offices in Crossgar and Bristol.

 Whilst the Company’s main market area is in the extractive industry, the applications for drone surveys are still being defined and this is an opportunity for the successful candidate to drive growth in to new areas with the Company already undertaking work for film companies in Northern Ireland, with our most famous Client being Game of Thrones.

 The successful applicant will be expected during the training period, to accompany the Company’s surveyors, who collect and present their own data in the form of aerial photography and plans.

 The employee will also complete an appropriate Health and Safety Passport scheme to demonstrate a competency in health and safety and understanding in the application of risk assessment, the apprentice will then be expected to be demonstrating an aptitude for surveying and working within the quarrying industry.

 Additional Survey requirements will include Stock surveys, setting out and highway surveys, using more traditional techniques.

 Once fully trained the surveyor will be provided with a Company site vehicle along with all the necessary equipment to undertake their day to day surveying activities.


 The applicant needs to hold a full clean driving licence and to be able to demonstrate that they are prepared and capable of working on site without supervision. The applicant must be self motivated with excellent communication and problem solving skills. They must be able to manage their own workload, organise their own diary, managing a range of projects simultaneously, whilst assisting the more office based staff with interesting and innovative presentation / outputs.
